amnite ns5000

Ammonia Oxidation Product (Concentrate)

Composition

The product contains a heterogeneous mix of ammonia-oxidising bacteria with Nitrosomonas europaea being the predominant strain. The product has an activity level of 5000-mg N oxidised/h/Kg product and is supplied in a liquid form. The product needs to be stored in the 4-10°C temperature range.

Operating Conditions

Nitrifying bacteria are very slow growing bacteria, which cannot carry out the nitrification process efficiently in the presence of high levels of organic solids. In addition these bacteria also have a requirement for a high level of dissolved oxygen. The product is most effective when the operating conditions in the treatment plant are close to the optimum listed below:

Parameter Optimum Acceptable
pH 8.0 7.0 - 9.0
Temperature 25°C 10 - 40°C
Dissolved oxygen >2.0 mg/l >0.5 mg/l
Alkalinity >200 units (CaCO3) >50 units (CaCO3[/sup)
Heavy Metals Absent Absent
BOD <50 mg/l <250 mg/l
Biomass Retention 7+ days (winter) 4+ days (winter)

Applications

Amnite NS5000 has been formulated to oxidise ammonia in waste waters under aerobic conditions. The bacteria in the product can be readily incorporated into the biomass of the treatment plant and the ammonia removal starts immediately on adding the product. The product is suitable for establishing ammonia oxidation in newly constructed or seasonally operated plants, to reseed a plant after a toxic shock or to improve the efficiency of the existing biomass to help ammonia consent levels. The high activity of the product ensures a rapid recovery of the ammonia-oxidation ability after the process has been affected by a toxic shock.

Instructions for Use

Add product to bucket of lukewarm (20 - 25°C) water, stir until completely mixed then pour into nitrifying zone of treatment plant
